Swiggy Instamart Introduces Homepage Banner Ads on Its Self-Serve Platform

Quick commerce advertising is evolving fast, and Swiggy Instamart is adding another important format for brands looking to improve their visibility on the platform. Starting 11th November, brands will be able to run Homepage Banner campaigns directly through Instamart’s self-serve advertising platform.

Until now, formats such as Search In-Line and L2 Banners gave brands opportunities to reach shoppers while they were browsing or searching. Homepage Banners take this a step further by allowing brands to capture attention as soon as a user opens the app.

Two Homepage Banner Formats

Instamart is introducing two options:

1. Brand Banners
These are designed to showcase the overall brand and direct shoppers to a curated collection of products. This can work well for brands with multiple SKUs that want to drive discovery across their portfolio.

2. Product Banners
These focus on individual hero products and come with a direct Add-to-Cart option. For brands with a bestseller or priority SKU, this can help reduce the steps between discovering the product and purchasing it.

Targeting Makes It More Interesting

For me, the bigger update is not just the inventory, but the audience targeting behind it.

Brands can target segments such as:

  • New-to-Brand shoppers
  • Existing brand loyalists
  • Dormant users
  • Shoppers based on category purchasing behaviour

This gives advertisers more flexibility in deciding whether a campaign should focus on acquisition, retention, reactivation, or category penetration.

Quick Commerce Advertising Is Moving Beyond Search

Search advertising is great at capturing existing demand. A shopper searches for a category or product, and brands compete to appear in front of them.

Homepage advertising plays a different role.

It gives brands an opportunity to influence the shopper before the search even happens.

For newer brands especially, this could be an interesting way to build visibility in a quick-commerce environment where purchase decisions can happen within minutes.

My Take

It is good to see quick-commerce platforms gradually building more sophisticated retail media capabilities. But with premium visibility comes an important question: Does the incremental reach translate into incremental business?
For brands testing Homepage Banners, I would look beyond just impressions and clicks. The real evaluation should be around incremental sales, New-to-Brand contribution, SKU-level uplift, repeat behaviour, and overall ROAS.
The format looks promising, but like every new ad placement, the real value will become clear once brands start testing it at scale.
